REPORTS OF THE OFFICERS
Chairman
Welcome to you, and
thank you all for making the effort to be here this evening and more especially
thank you and your Club-mates for your participation in the League this year. We
have had the benefit of continued sponsorship this season from Hands-On
Computer Solutions Ltd. It is with
regret that Phil Wardle has advised us that Hands-On Computer Solutions Ltd
will not be continuing their sponsorship for the 2012/13 Season. The search is on for replacement sponsors
& anyone who is willing or knows someone who is willing to take over should
contact a Committee Member as soon as possible. The League started this year
with 56 teams, one team dropping out from Division 4. As a result of the number of teams dropping
below 60 we were able to reinstate the George Lomax Cup for Division 5. As will be touched on later the honours in
the League this season were again well spread with 21 different teams featuring
in the end of season awards. Add to this
the list of individual winners and it meant that over 70 players received
awards. I should like to express my thanks to my Vice Chairman, Rodney Hall and
the other members of the Management Committee for their sterling efforts in
running the League so well, and also putting up with my meddling from time to
time. I don’t wish to steal their
thunder but it would be remise of me not to mention a few points. Keith Butler,
who is unfortunately not with us today, I’m not sure if he is in Camp David or
Chicago, has worked hard with Keith W to make some sense of the ETTA Membership
system. He assures me we are winning the
battle!
Keith Warrington
has not been to Oz in mid-season this year, so you have not had to put up with
my interference with scorecards & match reports. He has again done a superb job in keeping on
top of the Match Secretary role. Graham Wardle has managed our finances &
as you will see from the unaudited accounts we have made a small loss this
season. However our bank balance remains
very healthy. The tournament was played at Radcliffe School & my thanks go
to Rodney, Keith W, Graham & Simon King for their excellent organisation
both prior to & on the day itself. I
tried my best, due to my unfitness to play in the events, to sabotage their
efforts by ‘assisting’ but in spite of that it went very well & we finished
ahead of time!
Without Simon King,
I did my best to keep the website ticking over & my personal thanks go to
Simon for giving me good instructions & for being there for me when needed.
The new handicap system is now in its 3rd season, & whilst there
were some matches who provided high winning margins, I’m pleased to report that
the majority of matches had winning margins of 40 or less with the number of
single figure wins reaching double figures as well as one draw. Finals &
Presentation evening held at Elton Vale Social Club was well supported. The evening started with an 8 year old future
star (Amir Hussain) & ended with Mick Moir holding off the challenge of
Graham Jefferies to equal a league record of 7 singles titles. Those present were treated some very
entertaining TT by the players with the Match between Tommy Ryan & Denis
Collier being the evening highlight. Our
guest Brian Keen was impressed with the event and presented the awards in
conjunction with Nancy Lomax, Felicia Pressman, David Poytress & Phil
Wardle. A big thank you to Elton Vale
Sports Club for providing the venue & being very hospitable hosts.
Chairman cont’d
I would like to
finish by thanking all clubs who provided venues for Cup Finals & to
Seedfield Methodists for providing the venue for meetings including today’s
AGM. Finally, we won’t have got it all right over the season, but rest assured
Your Management Committee will take on board any areas you wish us to try to
improve.
IT’S BEEN 3 ENJOYABLE YEARS AS YOUR CHAIRMAN AND I APPRECIATE THE
GOODWILL SHOWN TO ME IN THAT TIME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT
THIS SEASON AND LONG MAY IT CONTINUE.
Secretary
Keith B was away on business but had
nothing to report to the meeting.
Match Secretary
This
was my sixth season as Match Secretary in the 80th year of the
League.
There
were 21 clubs in the League this season, 2 less than last season. We lost
Adelphi though some of their players signed for other clubs. Elton Vale Table
Tennis Club merged with Elton Vale Sports Club. Just after the start of the
season ELPM had to remove their C team from Division 4 which reduced the teams
in the League to 55. This was five less than the previous year but more than
the low of 51 in 2004/5. For the first time I can report that all 21 clubs
emailed me score cards but there were still a small number of teams that posted
or hand delivered. A small number I had to chase throughout the season, they
know who they are. Emailing cards or the results enables me to get the details
onto the website quicker and saves postage for those teams which is a greater
consideration with the rise in postage costs. You will see from the fines which
are substantially reduced this season that there is just one fine for a late
score cards. I would just confirm that fines were only imposed in accordance to
the rules; exactly the same as in previous years. I have a few thanks to make.
The
Individual Handicaps were in their third season with many close matches and
another drawn match which was replayed.
I would like to thank our Chairman Ken Crimes for his invaluable help
throughout the season to steer me through the sometimes confusing array of
calculations. Graham Wardle and our President Bob Goodman were also part of the
Handicap Committee and thanks to both of them for their help.
Simon
King, Graham Wardle and our Vice Chairman Rodney Hall and I were the Closed
Championship Sub Committee and the time spent preparing was well worth while
because the day went very. Simon did a tremendous amount of work on the day and
by early evening of the same day had uploaded all of the results for all of the
matches played on the day. Thanks to Simon, Graham and Rodney and to those who
helped Simon during the day.
I
would like to thank everyone on the Committee who helped with officiating at
all of the Cup Finals and with the preparations for Finals night. I had a new
contact at The Bury Times and he was very proactive throughout the season and
we enjoyed headlines on numerous occasions. We also got photographers to some
League matches again as well as the Closed Championship and Finals Night. I
have written to the Bury Times to thank them for their continued support.
Inter League Secretary
Graham
J reported at both Bury teams got promoted. The A team went up to the Premier
and the B team to Division one. The matches are played over two weekends.
Graham
Jeffries, Steve McNicholas and Rob Hall played for the A team.
Mick
Dore, Andy Evans and Lee Devenport played for the B team.
Tournament Secretary
Ken Crimes/Chairman reported that the
Championships had the same format as the previous year but at a new venue, The
Radclyffe School. This was well
received.
There were some changes in respect of
which matches were played on Finals Night.
Treasurer
Graham W reported that the League had
a deficit of £336 this season. Club Subscriptions were down £120, Fines down
£140 and ‘one off expenses’ of £235. This was made up of £50 for the website
improvement for the ‘e score cards’ and £180 donation to Shawfield Juniors.
ELECTIONS
The majority of Officers and Committee
members were standing for re-election.
All those standing were elected
unanimously. This resulted in the
following Committee:
President Bob Goodman
Chairman Frank Green
(replacing Ken Crimes)
Vice Chairman Rodney Hall
Secretary Keith
Butler
Treasurer Graham
Wardle
Match Secretary Keith Warrington
Inter-League Secretary Graham Jeffries
Coaching/Development Officer Mandy
Winskill
General Committee Members Ian McKenzie, Andrew
Webster, Edward Freeman
The Chairman advised the meeting that
the League rules allowed five General Committee members and if anyone at the
meeting were interested to contact any Committee Members after the meeting if
they were interested.
The
outgoing Chairman Ken Crimes welcomed Frank Green as his successor.
Frank
advised the meeting that though he was fairly new to the Bury League in recent
years he played in the League many years ago. He said that ken would be ‘a hard
act to follow’ and looked forward to the new challenge.
2012/13 SEASON

a timetable for the lead up to the new season and enclosed full instructions as

returned by Friday 29th June.

season would start on Monday 3rd September.
